How to style the perfect simple summer outfit

Summer really is the time when afternoon drinking and BBQ'in ends up in late night dancing. So when I get invited out for casual drinks I always make sure my outfit can last all the way through to the late evening without feeling like Cinderella before the fairy godmother. The first thing I try to create is balance, making sure that my outfit is causal enough for that relaxed beer garden drink or BBQ but then making sure I would be happy to head into the city for a few cheeky cocktails. Now it might seem easy but if you have ever tried to emulate the 'not trying very hard but really it took hours for you to get dressed and pick an outfit look' you will know that basically it can be a f**kin pain. But I think I have finally managed to master it.

Okay, so here is how to style the perfect simple summer outfit from Day to evening :

  • If in doubt, turn to denim. If you think denim is a little too casual for evening wear then remember; a pair of black jeans/skinnies can be a girls best friend. They are the easiest to style and are a little smarter than blue jeans.
  • Try a sandal that has a heel. I would never recommend a kitten heel because I loathe them! But a chunky block heel (like the ones I am wearing above) or wedge can go along way in making your look evening friendly.
  • If the thought of wearing any sort of heel all day fills you with dread then pop on a pair of ankle boots with a Lamé style dress and an oversized camouflage jacket. Then, when the clock strikes midnight, off comes the jacket and 'hello dancing queen'.
  • If in doubt, keep the top simple. A great fitting piece far out ways any trend and if it fits you perfectly and makes you feel  'ahhamazing' you are more likely to have a better time and not be self-conscious.
